2012 Michigan Camera Moose Hunt Contest
September 1 - November 30, 2012
Entry Deadline December 7, 2012

1987 Michigan Moose Release
© Richard P. Smith
Purpose:
To draw attention to the success of the relocation of moose to the western Upper Peninsula (UP) of Michigan from Ontario’s Algonquin Provincial Park in 1985 and 1987 and the natural colonization of moose in the eastern UP prior to those years. To also provide a recreational moose hunting opportunity that will not harm moose and that will generate some information about how many moose are on the UP mainland. Information about how many moose were photographed in each county during the Camera Moose Hunt Contest will be shared with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
Area open to camera hunting for moose:
The UP mainland, including islands in the St. Marys River. Moose must be in the wild and free ranging. Photos of captive moose are not eligible for entry. Moose photographed on Isle Royale, in any state other than Michigan or any other country, including Canada, are not eligible for entry.
